When I believe I have been wrongly judged, that may be true or may just be my opinion. Either way, I need to forgive. When God forgives us it is because we need it. We have wronged Him and He has never wronged us. But when we accept His forgiveness, all record of our wrongs in heaven is wiped clean, never to be found again by God or anyone. Eyewitnesses to heaven have seen this take place. One even saw an angel wiping the pages of a book with a red cloth, and was told the red cloth represents the blood of Jesus and that person had just accepted Jesus. But for us forgiving one another, it is different. While it may be my opinion that I have been wronged, that may or may not actually be the case. So when we forgive someone, it has nothing to do with relieving the other of some wrong. We can’t forgive someone else’s sin as the Pharisees said when Jesus forgave the paralyzed man’s sins. Only God can forgive sins or wrongs against someone else. What our forgiveness of others does, however, is free us from the burden of our negative attitudes. We must give our complaints and resentments over to Jesus and leave them at his feet so we can be free of the burden of carrying a load of bad attitudes. I did this on one occasion in the past and experienced a joyful freedom in my spirit from those resentments. The hindrance to enjoying the joy of the Lord was gone. Even the one who had misjudged me noticed the change and wondered what had happened. So whenever I feel wronged, I need to seek the Lord’s grace to leave what has happened at the feet of Jesus and walk forward with Him in praise and thanksgiving. I must be like God in having no record in my spirit of those wrongs. When someone says, “I forgive you, but I can never forget what you did.” They have not truly forgiven and are still carrying the burden of those negative feelings. If you are carrying some resentments, please lay them at Jesus’ feet and resist Satan’s attempts to get you to pick them up again. Just tell him, “they are in Jesus’ hands now, go talk to Him!”
