Eating is one of our favorite pastimes here and the occasion of many delightful social events. Will we still enjoy food as much there and the joyful company of a family dinner? How can we eat beef or chicken or fish if no animal ever dies there? How can a meal without any meat be satisfactory since the meat dish provides the basis of most of our meals here? Scripture does tell us that the next time Jesus enjoys the fruit of the vine with us will be in heaven, and the marriage supper of the Lamb is a scheduled event that is already in preparation. (More on that another time) It sounds like there might be good dinners there but what will we eat? Will it be better than a good steak or a good filet of mahi-mahi? Did any of the eyewitnesses get to eat anything? A friend of mine said he is looking forward to grilling a wonderful steak in heaven. But he had a look of chagrin when he learned no animal ever dies in heaven so maybe there will be no steaks to grill!
In fact there is very delicious food available there according to the eyewitnesses. But since in the last blog it was pointed out that we have no internal organs there, we will have no stomach or intestines. Eating will have to be different from here if we have no stomach. The good news is with no intestines, we will have no elimination and never need a toilet, and without a stomach we will never have an upset stomach.
Many of the eyewitnesses have reported on the fruit growing on the trees. Multiple varieties grow on the same tree, all within reach of someone on the ground. Some witnesses reported that new fruit immediately grows to replace a picked fruit. Also there is no rotten fruit on the ground. Any fruit not picked just evaporates, as does all the juice that runs down your arm or chin. Everything is always clean and pure in heaven. Many of the witnesses reported on the varieties of fruit available. Varieties mentioned include Bartlett pear, smaller pear-shaped clusters, pomegranates, apples, grapes, oranges, bananas, one like ice cream, and another like a finger roll, all growing on the trees. Some of the eyewitnesses were able to taste some of the fruit. They said when they touched the fruit to their lips it evaporated and melted into a delicious liquid running down their throats. Richard Sigmund said it tasted like a combination of honey, peach juice, and pear juice. He said it was sweet but not sugary. Oden Hetrick said the fruit he tasted was like a smooth and juicy pear. Rebecca Springer said the smaller pear-shaped clusters tasted like “the finest frozen cream.” She was able to taste many of the varieties and said just from the fruit growing on the trees, there was food for an elegant feast and no cultivation or other labor was required. Jeanne Enstad said all the trees along the rivers bore large fruit. In every case it was reported that the delicious juice left no sticky stain on their face, arms, or clothing.
Richard Sigmund mentioned grain in heaven and Kat Kerr said there is lots of delicious food there and it is not made from animals but from light. It all smells and tastes much better than the counterpart on Earth. She said these foods include things like steak, chicken, pizza, vegetables, fruit, cinnamon rolls, and desserts, all made from light and not animal parts.
Michael McCormack said the youngest children come to the trees and gather food for their families. Their families include everyone. We will all be part of one large family there. The only mention of family gatherings for sharing food was a report by Dr. Reggie Anderson’s patient Eunice. She said her welcoming committee had prepared a picnic for her and she could eat anything she wanted. There was no diabetic food that she was used to on Earth! She didn’t describe the picnic food other than it was delicious and very enjoyable.
So I am left with the impression that even though we don’t have to eat since we have no internal organs, delicious food will be provided for us at no cost or effort on our part. It will be like food we are used to but much better and all made from light, not animals. It seems like all the food just dissolves into a wonderful liquid when it touches our lips and runs down our throats (to evaporate I guess since there are no internal organs to receive it.) You can speculate what will be served at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. I am sure it is going to be a fabulous feast!
